Franco Sciannameo, a Distinguished Scholar in Multidisciplinary
Studies in the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University who
has known and worked with Giacinto Scelsi and his collaborators, will
discuss the controversies surrounding the authenticity of Scelsi's
work. His lecture will take place (in English) at the Istituto
Italiano di Cultura on April 7 at 6:30 pm.

The Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi (La Spezia, 1905-Rome, 1988) is
one of the greatest creative geniuses of our time whose legacy and
impact will continue to appreciate in the 21st century. Scelsi was
not a composer in the traditional mold. He was the creator of a
unique sound, language, philosophy and, ultimately, his own persona.
The notions of sound duration and frequency were not sufficient for
Scelsi. "Sound is spheric, therefore one must get to the heart of it"
he said repeatedly as he delved into his one-note obsession,
revealing a world of sounds still incomprehensible to many.
