I’m a huge fan of Terry Riley’s music, and I’ve played a lot of it on this program over the last couple years, with a focus on his electronic and tape work. Tonight we’ll resist the temptation to play more of his psychedelic tape stuff, and listen to something different, a work from 1980 for string quartet called Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector. The other music in this program was chosen to go with that piece. There are tracks from virtuoso string players Yo Yo Ma and L Shankar, one from Myra Melford‘s ensemble Snowy Egret, and a couple of others to fill out the program.
