This program features music released so far in 2023, including Darkness and Scattered Light by John Luther Adams, performed by the late bassist Robert Black; “The Sorting Line” from Joshua Marquez’ Recycled Soundscapes; Middle Armand Bayou by Tom Bickley; pianist Marc-André Hamelin’s recording of Gabriel Fauré’s Barcarolle No 3; Mirna Lekić’s recordings of piano solos by Natalie Draper and Helmut Lachenmann; and Doug Bielmeier’s ambient work Wells, ME. The program concludes with a tribute to the people of Artsakh, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh, who were forced to flee their homes and are now living as refugees in the Republic of Armenia following an invasion of the region by Azerbaijan on September 19, 2023, featuring Karabakhtsi composer Hovik Sardaryan‘s Ikone and Joseph Bohigian‘s Lullaby for Stepanakert, composed during the 2020 Artsakh War.
