This madrigal sandwich begins and ends with two modern takes on the madrigal, Peggy Glanville-Hicks’s 1955 piece Three Madrigals and James Weeks’s 2012-16 piece Primo Libro. Moving inward, we’ll hear two drone pieces, Without persistent environments, the sense of confusion and flux might only worsen by Noah Jenkins and Filter by Mattie Barbier. Further inward, percussion and piano pieces by Tyondai Braxton and Joan Tower, all centered around Matt Sargent’s vibraphone piece Sixth Illumination.
